The French perfumer has tasked the Hotel Cafe Royal to come up with the new fragrance-inspired Diptyque Afternoon Tea that takes its cues from its most popular scents
It seems only natural that perfume and patisserie would make perfect partners, both dedicated to extracting the maximum possible from natural ingredients, whether that be for flavour or fragrance. A new partnership between the Hotel Cafe Royal and French perfumer Diptyque promises to offer just that, as they team up for a special scent-inspired afternoon tea.
Launching at the start of September, executive pastry chef Sarah Barber has drawn inspiration from three of the company’s most popular scents – Vanilla, Violette and Verveine – taking its component ingredients as inspirations behind four new culinary creations. These include a classic Victoria sponge, elevated with the addition of a raspberry and rose jam and lychee and rose mousse. The Tahitian Vanilla Bar, meanwhile, sees vanilla sponge topped with crunchy hazelnut praline feuilletine and a white chocolate ganache. Fresh citrus notes have been captured in the Lemon Verbena, featuring a verveine-infused lemon cream with an orange crémeux on a sablé Breton base, while also on the menu is a tart filled with a violet cream and blackcurrant jam.
Of course, the Diptyque Afternoon Tea comes with all the accompaniments you’d expect, including a selection of sandwiches in classic flavours, followed by the customary scones. Priced at £60, or £65 with a glass of Laurent-Perrier NV, it also comes with the added treat of a take-away gift of a 70g Baies candle for every guest.
